Transformational Leadership Series #5 - Empower your tribe to make a difference.

What matters to you? Most of us know the answer to that question. I did say 'most'. Not all. So take it to the next level. What matters to your tribe? Your tribe can be any group of people that you actively care for (family), work with (employees), and connect to (community choir). Transformational leaders deeply understand their tribes' passions. Individually, and on a group level.


Understanding what makes your tribe vibe creates a foundation to build empowerment and aspiration. Taking time to explore your tribe's passions, their convictions and how they want to leave their individual mark on the world builds trust.


I connected with a local non profit recently and learned so much about their tribe's culture. Talk about hyper productivity! What stood out for me was the level of trust that the leaders have in their team. The team delivers incredible services into the community under pretty challenging conditions. They work outside business hours, service the most disadvantaged in our community, and yet still volunteer their time to other community causes and projects.


Empowerment for this tribe drives their business outcomes, services complex community needs, and positively extends their program's economic and social impact. It also nourishes their collective souls. It drives each member to commit to a cause. Sometimes more. Not always the same.


These leaders empower others to make a difference. And so can you. Play the long game. Understand what makes your tribe vibe. Build trust. Empower them. Good things will happen.
