Transformational Leadership Series #4 - Practice authentic gratitude every day.

Gratitude seems to be mentioned every other day. In social media, during leadership keynotes, coming from the mouths of parents. The concept seems to be fairly straightforward? Take time to think about what you're grateful for each day [tick]. Show someone gratitude through a kind act [tick]. Say thank you to a colleague that has gone out of their way to help you [tick]. It's not that hard, right?

We often fall into narrowing our perspective on gratitude. It's simply paying it forward, and showing kindness, and taking time to reflect. No. It's so much more. In #1 of this blog series, I challenged you to really know yourself. Go deep, find your why, work on your sense of self. This is no different.

In writing this post, I uncovered something extremely sensitive in my own memories. Slowly, eating, like rust on iron. Years ago, I worked with a colleague that really helped me find my creativity. He was an amazing intellect. Creative, thoughtful and had a sharpened wit. I learnt far beyond my experience. As we embarked on different career pathways, he always stayed in touch. His health challenged him. Cancer took him away, and I never found the time to thank him.

The graphic I use [below] honours him. No, it's not his face, but it reflects his battle, his experience beyond his years, his determination, and my eternal gratitude. Find the time now to practice gratitude, not for show, but to breath the air, to strengthen your resolve, and to make a positive impact on someone you know, or not.

Rest easy, JT.
