The concept of 'loving your process' comes to life when you see a true artisan at work. Having spent time in Murano, an island off Venice, recently, I was grateful to have witnessed a master glassblower at work creating incredible pieces of art. His focus was so intense. He was completely immersed in his craft.
Murano glass is world renowned for its beauty, complexity and history. Ever since the 12th Century, Murano glassblowers have been perfecting their craft, creating glass pieces that adorn the most famous of venues and homes across the globe. But not all glass pieces work. Many break, many fail due to simply flaws. Designs often fall short of expectations.
Undoubtedly, in business and in life, there are more failures than successes. Focusing on the process builds skills. It forces you to learn, to adapt, to push forward. Goals are critical, but true success lies in working the process, in sharpening your focus, in blocking out the noise and being connected with what you are executing. Outcomes will occur, and so will rewards.
Successful transformation is measured in change impact. Great leaders invest in their process. They immerse themselves in the journey. Sporting greats invest in their process. They immerse themselves in their training. Brilliant artisans keep creating, evolving their techniques, and exploring the environment for new inspiration.
Don't give in. Go back to your process. Your mastery lies there, waiting.
